englischFor the first time this work illuminates the meaning of the duty of consistency of development cooperation and what it means for the political action of the European Union in a comprehensive manner and from a legal point of view. So far the EU thwarts its efforts in developing countries with its own policies of association, trade, agriculture, fisheries and its common foreign and security policy. The duty of consistency, which is found in Art. 208 TFEU, calls for the Union to not only concentrate the development policy on the eradication of poverty, but to establish such a focus generally in all policy areas. This way, it codifies the principle of development in the Union’s external action. Starting from this premise the author concludes specific instructions for every policy area. If the Union were to follow these instructions, it could truly succeed in designing a better and more effective development cooperation.
