englischBased on parameters of input-oriented democracy, an analysis of the political system of the Federal Republic of Germany reveals its normative deficits. It was not only this theoretical perspective that led Sebastian Hadamitzky to doubt the common criteria of democratic legitimacy but, as his analysis uncovers, these criteria cannot be confirmed empirically either. In particular, the focal points of liberal democracy, responsivity and accountability have not been put into effect. “Input-oriented representation” aims to resolve these deficits. The study centres on inputs into political processes and supposes that political conduct for the common good is based on direct communication between representatives and citizens. Engaging with current questions of political theory, Hadamitzky proposes comprehensive reforms for the maximisation of democratic quality. This work will appeal to both scholars and students of political sciences as well as practitioners with political responsibility.
