englischHow does the war against Ukraine fit into the development of international law since 1914? The author explores this question with regard to the United Nations peace order, the Council of Europe, and international refugee law. With the attack on Ukraine, efforts to integrate Russia into the Council of Europe have definitively failed. In the field of UN peacekeeping, argumentation patterns from the Cold War show unexpected relevance again. International refugee law is taken back to its European origins when western States granted protection to opponents of Russian Soviet rule at the beginning of the 20th century. With the written version of his lecture, the author also addresses a generally interested legal audience.
