The paper shows the legal bases of the activities of the World Bank Group and illustrates the instruments of the organization to take influence on national policies. It examines if the work of the World Bank Group does actually aim at reducing poverty and promoting equality and asks how meaningful and important the activities are for Latin American countries.
Die Staaten Lateinamerikas zählen zu denen mit der größten Ungleichheit und sind von hartnäckiger Armut geprägt. Die Weltbankgruppe sieht es als ihre Aufgabe an, Staaten bei der Bekämpfung dieser Probleme zu unterstützen.
Die Autorin analysiert das Engagement der Weltbankgruppe in den Bereichen Gesundheit, Bildung und Arbeit sowie Infrastruktur und ländliche Entwicklung. Schwerpunktmäßig werden die vier Staaten Argentinien, Bolivien, Brasilien und Mexiko in den Blick genommen.
