englischIn the mouse model, scientists have already sporadically succeeded in generating healthy offspring by means of the union of artificial germ cells, i.e. germ cells derived from induced pluripotent stem cells. In the not too distant future, such artificial germ cells could also be used by humans for reproduction. This would allow the creation of "unnatural," i.e., inherently impossible, genetic parent-child relationships. This book first elaborates the essential foundations of the law of parentage under international and constitutional law. It then presents the current framework of the law of descent, especially with regard to possible reproduction by means of artificial germ cells. Finally, after an excursion into anthropological concepts of kinship, the book proposes regulations for both domestic and international descent law, as regulated by the Introductory Act to the German Civil Code (EGBGB), which also (and especially) provide solutions for the various conceivable cases of reproduction by means of artificial gametes.
