englischThe accelerating pace of technological development also poses new challenges for civil law. The Internet of Things and smart contracts enable remote access to smart objects. One aspect of this is the blocking of use of purchased objects, which the dissertation deals with. Can the seller fulfill its obligations to provide ownership and possession if the purchased item is equipped with a blocking device? Does the device constitute a material defect? What happens if a third party acquires ownership of the item in good faith? The dissertation addresses all these and other questions. It also examines whether and how the blocking device can be regulated in general terms and conditions.
