To conduct its legal analysis, it adopts insights from economics to a large extent, narrowing the broad problem area of tight housing markets and providing a variety of new insights. This research project examines which regulatory instruments can worsen or improve the strained situation. The analysis is carried out across several legal fields.

In addition, the project analyses whether rent control or the cumulative interaction between rent regulation, the law on the misappropriation of housing, the protection of the urban environment, the municipal right of first refusal and the building law safeguard the fundamental rights of housing providers.
