englischThe dissertation about the constitution of the state Mecklenburg-Schwerin analyzes the constitutional document of 1920, including the transitions as well as the destruction in the course of the Gleichschaltung. Three aspects in particular should be emphasized. First, the state constitution is one of the few documents that was not even acknowledged in a commentary during the interwar period. Secondly, in 1918 the state of Mecklenburg-Schwerin was literally on the verge of making the leap from the late Middle Ages to modern statehood. Thirdly, the constitution of Mecklenburg-Schwerin has a number of special features, especially the preamble to fundamental rights, which in many respects anticipates Article 1 para. 3 and Article 79 para. 3 of the German Constitution ("Grundgesetz").
