englischBy mission and impact investing, German foundations can effectively support charitable purposes even in a low-interest environment. The permissibility of these investments depends particularly on the investment partner and the type of funds used by the foundation. The permissibility is evaluated on the basis of foundation law, and, for non-profit foundations, also on the basis of non-profit law. Moreover, the profitability of each investment has to be analysed, specifically focusing on the purpose of the investment. Despite these requirements, foundations may conduct permissible mission and impact investments. Hence, foundations can promote their purposes and fulfil their social responsibility even with a modest income.
