englischThe call for stronger regulation of communication on platforms and their activities is becoming louder in both theory and practice, which is understandable in view of the developments of recent years: filter bubbles and echo chambers, algorithms, and undesirable communicative developments such as hate speech and fake news. This volume brings together theoretical analyses and recent empirical findings related to the social impact of communication on platforms and its ethical problems. This includes possible ‘ideal’ platforms from an ethical perspective, data management of digital platforms, forms of human–machine communication, local communication in democracies, journalism and vulnerable target groups on platforms, algorithm-driven news selection on platforms and problematic social media forms of communication. The book’s target audience is communication scholars, students and citizens interested in this subject who interact with digital platforms.
