englischThe study addresses the question of the extent to which legal control through private law instruments is suitable for supporting the energy and climate policy goal of increasing end-use energy efficiency and which legal approaches are available for adequately countering obstacles on the way to achieving the goal. Especially against the background of the weaknesses of the public law instruments of energy law, private law incentive instruments are becoming increasingly important. Up to now, however, there has been no description and evaluation of these private-law instruments with regard to energy efficiency improvement, which is why this study aims to close this important research gap.
