englischIn its Special Report 82, the Monopolies Commission addresses the European Commission's proposal for a Digital Markets Act (DMA) and shows how the DMA can be better targeted to protect competition in digital markets to the benefit of consumers. Key recommendations of the Monopolies Commission relate to limiting the scope of the law to large operators of digital ecosystems and extending the ban on self-preferencing strategies laid out in the proposed law. In return, an exception to the obligations of the DMA – known as an efficiency defence – should be made possible in the case of clear benefits for consumers.
