englischThis book focuses on the decision-making process of denuclearisation in South Africa and the internal as well as international influences in this respect. Using a newly developed methodological approach of eclectic case-focused process tracing, the author examines the factors of security, international institutions and norms, state preferences, national identity and technological capabilities in terms of their impact on the nuclear decision-making process. Thus, the book provides a comprehensive analysis of South Africa's nuclear programme in the context of national and international circumstances from the 1950s to nuclear disarmament. The findings are reviewed using the case of Libya, and their implications for non-proliferation research and policy are derived.
