englischThis dissertation presents a cross-context analysis of the conditions for success and the organisational structures of higher education from the perspective of the provider. At its core are the notions of master’s programmes as the interface between vocational and academic education and being embedded in the discourse of higher education development. On the basis of the definition of organisational success, the author develops a theoretically sound framework for the qualitative analysis of the master’s programme ‘Social Management’ at five German universities of applied science. The results are the crucial development steps, success factors and conditions for success in the sustainable institutionalisation of post-graduate studies. This study thus makes the decisive focus of transdisciplinary development of degree programmes transparent, demonstrates the limits of economically oriented education management and provides recommendations for the practice of further education at higher education institutions.
