The present volume introduces readers easy and comprehensible to theoretical perspectives, methodical approaches and empirical results of Gatekeeping from a communication science perspective. One emphasis will be current theoretical and methodical developments of this approach which have been caused by new and diverse forms of communication on the internet. The publication is intended to serve as a textbook for students, and also as a source of information for other interested people.
Der Gatekeeping-Ansatz ist einer der prominentesten Ansätze der Nachrichtenauswahl. Ursprünglich beschäftigte sich der Ansatz mit der Frage, welche Informationen für die öffentliche Verbreitung ausgewählt werden und welche Einflussfaktoren dabei eine Rolle spielen. Im Internet filtern zunehmend auch das Publikum und technische Selektionshilfen relevante Informationen heraus und betätigen sich damit als Gatekeeper.
Der Band führt aus kommunikationswissenschaftlicher Perspektive knapp und leicht lesbar in die theoretischen Grundlagen, methodischen Zugänge und empirischen Befunde des Gatekeeping-Ansatzes ein. Ein Schwerpunkt wird dabei auf aktuelle theoretische und methodische Weiterentwicklung des Ansatzes gelegt, die durch neue und vielfältige Kommunikationsformen im Internet bedingt sind.
