englischThe history of social work can be presented as a linear narrative of success. However, this ignores contradictions and circular developments. This textbook assumes that no consistent story can be told for social work as a whole. Therefore, contradictory developments are highlighted in relation to categories of social inequalities. Constellations of being involved are presented as well as the tensions of solidarization, complicity, (not)seeing and (not)recognizing. Developments of professionalization, institutionalization and organizations of social work are reconstructed in their ambivalences for practice. The textbook is intended to stimulate the understanding of social work as an (un)possible profession that is necessary in difficult circumstances.

Die Geschichte der Sozialen Arbeit kann als lineare Erfolgserzählung dargelegt werden. Dies blendet jedoch Widersprüche und zirkuläre Entwicklungen aus. Dieses Lehrbuch geht davon aus, dass keine konsistente Geschichte für die Soziale Arbeit als Ganzes erzählt werden kann. Daher werden widersprüchliche Entwicklungen im Verhältnis zu Kategorien Sozialer Ungleichheiten beleuchtet. Es werden Konstellationen des Beteiligtseins ebenso dargestellt wie die Spannungsfelder von Solidarisierung, Mittäterschaft, (Nicht)Sehen und (Nicht)Erkennen. Entwicklungen von Professionalisierung, Institutionalisierung und Organisationen Sozialer Arbeit werden in ihren Ambivalenzen für die Praxis rekonstruiert. Das Lehrbuch soll dazu anregen, Soziale Arbeit als einen (un-)möglichen Beruf zu begreifen, der in schwierigen Verhältnissen notwendig ist.
