englischGlobal sustainability policy has developed more than any other policy area in recent decades and has recently undergone a profound and groundbreaking redefinition. Formerly based on the conceptual guidelines of the Brundtland Commission on Sustainable Development, the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) mean that sustainability now encompasses not only the environment and development, but also broad areas of political and social action, e.g. migration, security, stable institutions, good governance and much more. This textbook traces the development of this policy area from its beginnings in the 1960s until 2020, and examines the most important global actors, institutions and policy frameworks and their performance. At the same time, it offers a systematic overview of the most important topics, objectives, instruments and indicators in terms of a future transformative Global Sustainability Policy.

Andreas Rechkemmer has held several positions at the United Nations and, as a Professor of Global Policy, is an internationally renowned expert in this field.
