englischThis volume examines a variety of developments stemming from the process of European integration in recent years: on the one hand, the pursuit of centralisation and, on the other, tendencies towards decentralisation. The emerging tensions, which are present even now, affect both the European and national levels. At European level, the main focus is on the vertical distribution of powers between the Union and its Member States. At national level, the range of topics includes secessionism, on the one hand, and intense transnational cooperation among regions, on the other. The book examines these developments from both a broader and a more specific perspective that, in terms of history, law, the economy and political science, focuses on the European region which consists of Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino. The contributions in the book are written in either German or Italian, but an abstract also summarises the content of each in the other language.
