englischInvestment protection and arbitration are the focus of controversial political discussions. New proposals and court decisions, such as the debate about an international investment tribunal, the Singapore report and the ruling on Achmea by the European Court of Justice, the ruling on Germany withdrawing from its nuclear power programme by the country’s Federal Constitutional Court and the current proceedings against Vattenfall at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes, are shaping this field and will continue to do so in the future. The contributions in this volume examine the urgent legal issues and knock-on effects in this respect in the contexts of investment arbitration, rule of law and democracy. They document the 23rd conference on European Union Law, which was organised by Prof. Dr. Markus Ludwigs and Prof. Dr. Oliver Remien and which took place at the University of Würzburg on 10th and 11th November 2017.
