The 13 contributions draw a complex picture of the conflicts with and in Iran and reflect the various aspects of these conflicts from different perspectives and at a high methodological and theoretical level.
The nuclear program is examined, inter alia through the eyes of four major theories of International Relations. In addition, the analyses are concerned with the regional security dimension, the relationship USA–Iran, the role of national preferences, and the effect of national processes to the Iranian foreign policy.

Der Band führt in die strukturierte Konfliktanalyse als Werkzeug sozialwissenschaftlicher Forschung ein und nutzt dieses Instrument beispielhaft, um die verschiedenen, innen- wie außenpolitisch mit Iran verbundenen Konflikte jenseits populärer Stereotypen (wie der „Bombe“) auf breiter Grundlage systematisch zu analysieren und kontrovers zu diskutieren.
Die einzelnen Beiträge zeichnen ein differenziertes Bild der Konflikte mit und in Iran und reflektieren die verschiedenen Aspekte dieser Konflikte aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven und auf hohem methodisch-theoretischem Niveau. Das Atomprogramm wird dabei unter Anderem durch die Brille der vier Großtheorien der Internationalen Beziehungen untersucht. Daneben beschäftigen sich die Analysen mit der regionalen Sicherheitsdimension, der Beziehung USA–Iran, der Rolle einzelstaatlicher Präferenzen sowie mit der Wirkung innerstaatlicher Prozesse auf die iranische Außenpolitik.
