This conference volume underlines this importance documenting the results of a conference on environmental law organized by fireu (Frankfurter Institut für das Recht der Europäischen Union). It contains 16 papers dealing with several aspects of European environmental law by Marc Bungenberg, Felix Ekardt, Walter Frenz, Christiane Herzog, Sebastian Heselhaus, André M. Latour, Thomas Lübbig, José Martinez, Carsten Nowak, Matthias Pechstein, Gerard C. Rowe, Kirsten Schmalenbach, Sabine Schlacke, Rainer Schröder, Foroud Shirvani, Jörg P. Terhechte, Carmen Thiele and Luca Thieme. The contributions focus on the role of environmental protection in different fields of European Law (fundamental freedoms; competition law; town and country planning; agricultural policy, transport policy, commercial policy, European neighbourhood policy; development cooperation). They further address legal questions and demarcation problems relating to European environmental, climate and energy policy and point out relevant dimensions of European fundamental rights and administrative cooperation regarding European environmental protection.
Der Umweltschutz stellt ein fundamentales Verfassungsziel und eine wichtige Daueraufgabe der Europäischen Union dar. Dies unterstreicht der vorliegende Tagungsband, der die Ergebnisse einer umweltrechtlichen Konferenz des Frankfurter Instituts für das Recht der Europäischen Union (fireu) dokumentiert und sechzehn Beiträge von Marc Bungenberg, Felix Ekardt, Walter Frenz, Christiane Herzog, Sebastian Heselhaus, André M. Im Mittelpunkt stehen dabei die Rolle des Umweltschutzes in unterschiedlichsten Teilbereichen des Unionsrechts (Grundfreiheiten; Wettbewerbsrecht; Raumordnung; Agrar-, Verkehrs-, Handels- und Nachbarschaftspolitik; Entwicklungszusammenarbeit), verschiedene Rechts- und Abgrenzungsfragen im Zusammenhang mit der EU-Umwelt-, Klima- und Energiepolitik sowie einige unionsgrundrechtliche und kooperationsverwaltungsrechtliche Dimensionen des Europäischen Umweltrechts.
