Although work is still an important part of the majority of people’s lives and a key category when analysing social processes, its content, forms of organisation, demands and technological foundations have undergone as much substantial change as the social, hierarchical and political relationships in which it is embedded, and the expectations, interests and qualifications of the people who carry it out. This updated and expanded edition of the “Lexikon der Arbeits- und Industriesoziologie” (“Lexicon of Occupational and Industrial Sociology”) has three aims: to do justice to its subject’s dynamics, to document the wealth of knowledge on this subject and to attempt to meet its readers’ varying needs.
Der Untersuchungsgegenstand der Arbeits- und Industriesoziologie hat sich beständig und massiv verändert. Zwar ist Arbeit nach wie vor eine bestimmende Größe im Leben der meisten Menschen und eine zentrale Kategorie in der Analyse sozialer Prozesse. Doch Inhalte, Organisationsformen, Beanspruchungen und technische Grundlagen von Arbeit unterlagen ebenso starkem Wandel wie die sozialen, hierarchischen und politischen Beziehungen, in die sie eingebettet ist, und die Erwartungen, Interessen und Qualifikationen der Personen, die sie ausführen. Der Dynamik des Gegenstands gerecht werden, die Breite des disziplinären Wissens dokumentieren und dabei variierenden Nutzerbedürfnissen entgegenkommen: Diese drei Ziele hat sich das Lexikon der Arbeits- und Industriesoziologie gesetzt, das nun in aktualisierter und erweiterter Auflage vorliegt.
