englischThis book provides a new approach to the topic of Muslims in Germany and Europe: It doesn’t focus on religions or traditions, but on being Muslim as pivotal in the creation of cultural surroundings, which reveal matters of course in our society.

The book contains the findings of a sociological study on how Muslims in Germany describe themselves and examines the images of society which form and are formed by narratives of being Muslim. A discourse analysis presents the contexts in which being Muslim allows itself to be narrated as a specific lifeworld experience, which has the potential to problematise social frameworks. These narratives turn out to be a resource for the authentic experience of social participation and discover themselves as authors of social differentiation and also their reintegration.
