englischExternal pressure is considered one of the factors that force organizations to reform. In the case of international sports organizations, this does not seem to be true: Although the IOC, FIFA and quite a few other federations have been criticized for years, they unwaveringly stick to their policies. Their behavior and some of the decisions they make are usually explained by a lack of decency, greed and corruption. However, this explanation falls short. The concept of meta-organization offers a better explanation of why world sports federations behave the way they do. It is not only suitable for analyzing the world of sport, but it is connectable to current debates on governance, global governance, good governance, and beyond.
