englischPlatforms have developed into the most prominent business model of the digital world. To shed light on the phenomenon in a comparative and interdisciplinary manner, the Ernst von Caemmerer foundation, the German Hub of the European Law Institute and the Bayreuth Research Center on Consumer Law jointly organised a conference at the University of Bayreuth. The proceedings published in this volume contain most of the presentations as well as reports on the discussions of this conference.

The collected contributions approach this research from various perspectives: they document the current state of the European and German legal discussions, show the economic perspective on the platform economy, dissect this topic from a comparative legal perspective – with an emphasis on Estonia, France, Italy and England – and discuss core issues of platforms and their legal realisation in detail. By bringing together these various perspectives, this volume provides a detailed picture on the discussions in science and practice and even establishes bases for a future legal discussion.
