According to the political language of the ruling AKP elite, Turkish society has entered a phase of a ‘new Turkey’ with more democracy and economic development. One thing is certain: with the rise in power of the AKP, Turkish politics is gaining a new dynamic, which is full of conflict and is leading to reform of the political domain. This anthology explores these processes of change and the continuity of Turkish political culture during this period. It devotes particular attention to the influence of the AKP government’s policy on Turkey’s political and cultural order. The individual contributions it contains are therefore concerned with the question of the changes in and continuity of political and cultural patterns. With this focus, they allow conclusions to be drawn concerning Turkey’s political order and, in particular, the question of democratisation.

Wohin steuert die Türkei? Die innen- und außenpolitischen Neuorientierungen der AKP seit dem Jahr 2002 lassen diese Frage berechtigt erscheinen. Gemäß der politischen Sprache der herrschenden AKP-Elite sei die türkische Gesellschaft in eine Phase eingetreten, in der eine „neue Türkei“ mit mehr Demokratie und wirtschaftlicher Entwicklung entstehe. Eines steht fest: Mit dem Machtaufstieg der AKP erhält die türkische Politik eine neue Dynamik, die sich äußerst konflikthaft abspielt und zur Neuformierung des politischen Feldes führt.
Der Sammelband geht auf die Suche nach diesen Prozessen des Wandels und der Kontinuität der türkischen Politikkultur in dieser Zeit. Die besondere Aufmerksamkeit gilt dem Einfluss der Politik der AKP-Regierung auf die politisch-kulturelle Ordnung der Türkei. In den einzelnen Beiträgen steht folglich die Frage nach Wandel und Kontinuität politisch-kultureller Muster im Vordergrund. Mit dieser Fokussierung lassen sie Schlussfolgerungen zu, die die politische Ordnung der Türkei und besonders die Frage nach Demokratisierung betreffen.
