englischThe volume focusses on the following question: How do government institutions react if officials use excessive physical force? The thesis especially deals with the issue of police brutality. The emphasis lays on the reaction of the prosecutors, the criminal courts and the legislature. The study starts with an evaluation of statistics concerning physical force by government officials, followed by concrete cases and ends with suggestions for improvements of police work. To give a balanced perspective on German police work the thesis compares the problems to the situation of police brutality in the USA.
