englischThe demand for municipalisation is literally upending the federalist model of German housing policy that has existed until now. This paradigm shift requires a new form of interdisciplinarity involving urban sociology, local policy research and housing promotion. A municipal-state-federal programme termed ‘Housing’ can—analogously to the methodology of the urban development programme ‘Socially Integrative City’—contribute to solving the social question of housing in Germany. The author of this book works as a mayor in Karlsruhe in the field of social housing provision, both practically and politically, as well as in academia as a lecturer at TU Wien, the university of technology in Vienna.
