englischIn Germany, funding of non-profit organizations and charitable projects is typically guaranteed through donations and public funds. However, there are also non-profit projects and organizations that are financed through the revenue of lotteries, or which host lotteries themselves in order to secure funding for their aims. The latter are called “social lotteries.”

The law of social lotteries intersects with the law of gambling, which has been reformed repeatedly over the past years, and which is the subject of continuing jurisprudential debate. This study addresses current judicial problems and questions of non-constitutional, constitutional, and European law, as they pertain to the system of social lotteries.
