englischThe IGES expertise analyses the present dialysis care system in Germany and discusses options on how to cover the rising need for care.

In this context, home therapy plays an important role. This is because the number of dialysis-dependent patients has been growing since 1995. Also, the authors expect a further increase while the share of nephrologists in outpatient care will decrease simultaneously.

Based on structured literature and internet research, guideline-based interviews with experts and representatives from various fields of dialysis care, a Delphi survey, and data modeling this book is the first to describe structures and processes of dialysis care as well as the needs of care of patients suffering from terminal kidney failure in the German health care system.

Various options to provide adequate and appropriate care in the future are discussed, and focus is put on the potential of home therapy.
