englischDrug shortages and poor quality pharmaceuticals pose a risk to public health. The incidence of pharmaceutical companies being unable to supply or having to recall their products has increased steadily over the past few years, and, consequently, such problems have increasingly become the object of public scrutiny.

This book is the first to examine the economic consequences of drug shortages and pharmaceutical recalls on the central players in the pharmaceuticals supply chain, the manufacturers themselves. Following on from this, and by employing empirical data, the book analyses how these companies’ supply chain management policies can influence the occurrence of such problems. Using the expert opinions of representatives of the pharmaceutical industry, the book recommends ways in which pharmaceutical companies can improve their supply chain management in order to ensure that the general public are supplied with optimum pharmaceutical products.
