The Latin term universitas perfectly describes the work and achievements of Klaus Dicke and thus forms the underlying idea behind this Festschrift. It has three associations: firstly, it denotes the idea of a comprehensive whole and also the unity of the manifold topics and ideas addressed by Klaus Dicke in his work. Secondly, universitas stands for the circle of individuals who have accompanied Klaus Dicke throughout his life and career and who are gathered together in this book. And thirdly, universitas also denotes the institution of university, which has determined Klaus Dicke’s work as a student, academic, professor and rector. The contributions this book contains all revolve around the subjects political theory and the history of ideas, democracy and government, international relations and international law, as well as education and university. In these contributions, it becomes clear that they address a vast array of ideas, individuals and institutions in politics and academia.
