englischIf media systems change, so does their contribution to other areas of society, which is why analysing changes to media systems is a key element of research into media structures. This book discusses ways of describing changes to media systems and what those changes signify by considering developments in different types of media organisations, which are key service providers in media systems, from an organisational and ecological point of view. In doing so, it analyses changes to structures in the Swiss media between 1968 and 2013 as examples, and by means of qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) examines what conditions led to high withdrawal rates from certain types of media in the past. All this shows that changes to media systems do not occur randomly but in processes and over a long period of time according to different, changeable yet identifiable mechanisms.
