englischThis book addresses the effects the reorganisation of the EU external action by the Treaty of Lisbon has on agreements which include CFSP as well as a non-CFSP components. Under the old legal framework, even the admissibility of such agreements was doubted. But in spite of the reforms of the Treaty of Lisbon for the EU’s external action, many inconsistencies remain due to the special provisions for the CFSP. Nevertheless, cross-Treaty agreements are still necessary in order to provide a comprehensive contractual basis for the EU’s relations with third countries. Against this backdrop, the book examines the key questions related to cross-Treaty agreements, i.e. their general admissibility, the procedural consequences and the judicial review of such agreements. In a subsequent case study, the book examines the consequences this entails for the next generation of agreements between the EU and its East European neighbours.
