englischThe fourth Gene Technology Report by the interdisciplinary research group (IAG) of the same name at the Berlin–Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BBAW) takes stock of almost 20 years of work.

Renowned experts from and associates of the IAG present different appraisals on both the development of gene technologies in Germany as well as the work of the IAG. After highlighting past developments, they examine the current debates and future challenges, including ethical and societal aspects. Additionally, they present so-called indicators, which provide information on all six of the topics that have been monitored by the IAG so far (epigenetics, genetic diagnosis, gene therapy, stem cell research, agricultural biotechnology and synthetic biology).

As a preface to the book, the members of the group recommend courses of action for all six of the topics it addresses.
