englischIn the course of the 20th century, Russia - like Germany - experienced two attempts to establish a democratic system of rule in the country. The "first" Russian democracy failed after eight months in October 1917 as a result of the Bolshevik coup d'état, while the first German democracy (the Weimar Republic) failed after around 14 years, not least due to the political "irresponsibility" of the conservative German elites. The "second" Russian democracy established in August 1991 attempted to learn certain lessons from both the collapse of its Russian predecessor and the failure of Weimar democracy, but in vain. Unlike in Germany, the second "democratic experiment" also failed in Russia. Analysing all these developments and their causes is the subject of this book.
