englischThese conference proceedings include a comparative analysis and study on water in the Iberian Peninsula, and deliberately pursue an interdisciplinary approach. From their perspective, authors from various disciplines (history, anthropology, archaeology, law and geography) examine the Iberian Peninsula’s relationship to water and waterways from the Roman Empire to Muslim rule. In addition to the legal issues, such research topics play a role which envisages ‘water management’ in the broader sense. In this context, Roman irrigation structures, Roman space division, water management in Al-Andalus and land use-related agricultural regulations play a special role. The authors also pay particular attention to the continued existence of Roman law in the subsequent legal cultures of the Visigoths and Arabs. What continuities can be established and were Roman legal or administrative principles adopted in Visigoth or Islamic culture?
