englischThis legal-historical work traces the development of the idea of municipal self-government, which was characterized by continuities and setbacks, on the basis of administrative court decisions on municipal matters in the Grand Duchy of Baden. With a special focus on municipal supervision and municipal electoral law, the study shows how the understanding of municipal task performance oscillated between non-autonomy and independence and how an independent administrative jurisdiction developed. The work provides a comprehensive overview of the milestones and turning points in the institutionalization of municipal jurisdiction in the period from early constitutional Baden to the November Revolution.
