englischUnder Art. 2 (4) UN-Charta it is forbidden for states to use force "in their international relations". While most authors consider this to mean solely "inter-state force", there is in fact a broader meaning to this central element of the provision. After a thorough textual interpretation, this book argues that in fact any use of force by a state that is not solely "internal" can be included in the scope of application. While practice in this respect is not unambiguous, an in-depth analysis of various use of force scenarios draws a surprisingly nuanced picture that depicts the full potential of this often overlooked element.
