Around 1700, the French cantata in particular appeared as a special poetic and musical phenomenon, albeit one of short duration. The cantata, originally from Italy, now combined Italian instrumental and French vocal music: a versatile new genre had been invented. This raises questions about cultural transfers and stylistic mixtures (goût réuni), which have already been answered in different ways both in the context of contemporary, ideologically charged discussions and in research. In this context, the genre has often been thematized with reference to opera rather than as an independent work. The latest assumption, on the other hand, understands the cantata as a variable musical-literary "structural type" with a catalytic function. Um 1700 erschien vor allem die französische Kantate als besonderes poetisches und musikalisches Phänomen, wenn auch als eines von kurzer Dauer. In der ursprünglich aus Italien stammenden Kantate wurden nun italienische Instrumental- und französische Vokalmusik vereint: Eine vielseitige neue Gattung war erfunden. Daraus ergeben sich Fragen zu Kulturtransfers und Stilmischungen (Goût réuni), die sowohl im Kontext zeitgenössischer, ideologisch aufgeladener Diskussionen als auch in der Forschung bereits unterschiedlich beantwortet worden sind. Die Gattung wurde dabei oft nicht als eigenständig, sondern mit Bezugnahme auf die Oper thematisiert. Die neuste Annahme versteht die Kantate hingegen als variablen musikalisch-literarischen „Strukturtypus“ mit Katalysatorfunktion. Die Autorin knüpft dort an, nähert sich den französischen Kantaten, ihren gattungsspezifischen, stilistischen und topisch von der Oper beeinflussten Ausprägungen durch Analysen, betrachtet sie erstmals als Werke eigenen Rechts mit eigener Dramaturgie und arbeitet in Bezug auf die Entstehungs- und Frühgeschichte Ideologien, soziale Netzwerke, Milieus, Gattungsgrenzen sowie -überschneidungen und Eigenarten heraus.
