englischThe composer Hugo Staehle, who was born in Fulda and died in Kassel aged not yet 22, was considered by his contemporaries to be an outstanding talent. His teacher Louis Spohr arranged performances of Staehle’s C Minor Symphony and the opera Arria. In Leipzig Staehle was able to develop contacts with other leading figures in contemporary musical life. However, Hugo Staehle’s interesting life has until now hardly been studied. This book establishes a foundation and brings together all pre-1945 sources on his biography and reception: documents that read almost like a novel in letters and offer lively insights into musical and everyday life in Kassel, Vienna and Leipzig in the 1840s.
