englischThe biographies of G. Ph. Telemann and C. P. E. Bach intersect at many points. For instance, Telemann supported his godson’s application for the post of Cantor at St Thomas’s Church in Leipzig; and he introduced him in Hamburg with a performance of his church music. In 1768 Bach took over Telemann’s post in Hamburg and often made use of his vocal music.

The conference papers published here are devoted to the artistic and communicative mechanisms between Telemann’s and C. P. E. Bach’s generations, examining exchange and exclusion, and discussing continuity and paradigm change in musical and literary style using examples from church music, oratorios, songs and instrumental works.
