englisch This book is concerned with THE discursive event of 1999, the “Kosovo War”. It marks a turning point as it was the first time since 1945 that German soldiers were involved in hostilities “out of area”. The focus of the interdisciplinary study is a quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the intellectual debate in the media. Facts and arguments are carefully separated and systematically analysed. The history of the Kosovo conflict is presented controversially on the basis of the available sources. Using the perspectives of history, political science, international law and philosophy, the discussion of the “humanitarian intervention” is embedded in the context of the great social debates of the 1990s. This is the first comprehensive and critical portrayal of the public discourse about the “Kosovo War” in Germany.
