englisch The version of the Passion story composed by the poet Johannes von Frankenstein around 1300 survives in a single manuscript written by two Austrian scribes. The editor of the only critical edition, Ferdinand Khull, emphasises that the poet’s dialect was originally a central German one. This is clear to the editor on the basis of a number of flawed rhymes. Khull emphasises that this work is a significant example of Silesian dialect. His edition performs a major service in returning the text to its original phonetic character.
