englischThis dissertation examines the options of regulating environmental due diligence for German and European companies, obliging them to verify compliance with environmental standards in their supply chains.

The thesis includes an investigation and systematization of the body of existing norms for extraterritorial due diligence. Examples are the European Timber Trade Regulation (EUTR), the Conflict Minerals Regulation, the CSR Directive, and the French Loi de Vigilance. Finally, the author analyzes environmental due diligence requirements in the new German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG). In addition, other regulatory proposals are critically examined and supplemented by the new considerations. The author also examines the compatibility of existing and potential environmental due diligence requirements with higher-ranking law, in this case international law, WTO law, EU law and German constitutional law.
