englischUpon being diagnosed with a brain tumor, Wolfgang Herrndorf started his blog ‘Arbeit und Struktur’ (Work and Structure) in 2010, which was posthumously published in the form of a book. The blog relays a self-narrative in which he reflects on the challenges of his illness, consequently bringing memory loss to the forefront of this study. It examines mechanisms of self-archiving and self-effacement, constellations of genre and (digital) media as well as auto-fictional modes of writing. Furthermore, this study shows how the interplay between genre, (visual) medium and the (topographical) organisation of memory equally configures Herrndorf’s amnesia thriller ‘Sand’ (Sand) (2011).
Seinen Blog ›Arbeit und Struktur‹ (2010), posthum als Buch veröffentlicht, beginnt Wolfgang Herrndorf nach der Diagnose eines Gehirntumors: Das Schreib- und Ich-Projekt ist von Erinnerungslücken markiert. Ausgehend vom Blog untersucht die Studie erstmals Konfigurationen der Gedächtnisstörung bei Herrndorf. Diskutiert werden das Spannungsverhältnis zwischen selbstarchivierenden und selbstauslöschenden Mechanismen, Genre- und (digitale) Medienkonstellationen sowie autofiktionale Schreibweisen. Das Zusammenspiel von Genre, (visuellem) Medium und der (topografischen) Organisation von Gedächtnisräumen konfiguriert auch den Amnesie-Thriller ›Sand‹ (2011).
