englischSince 1950, the consequences of increasing the human impact on the Earth have become more and more evident, forcing literature to confront potential future catastrophes. Nowhere else is the catastrophic future of the ›Age of Humans‹, the so-called Anthropocene, imagined and narrated as impressively as in science fiction. Based on two far-sighted Scandinavian narratives from the second half of the 20th century, this book examines the function of science fiction as a medium of reflection on the current epochal change. It focuses both on the process of becoming aware of a new self-image and world view as well as on the challenges of representation associated with a catastrophic future.
