englischThis book demonstrates that poetics around 1900 employs the Romantic concept of music in order to develop techniques with which to represent the ineffable. It investigates the foundations of the Romantic notion in poetics research that the ineffable comes to the fore in musical arrangements of autonomous tones, and examines the reception of this notion in George, Hofmannsthal, Rilke and avantgarde poetics against the backdrop of symbolism, linguistic criticism and musical aesthetics. By including texts from poetics in which music is neglected, ignored or attacked, the book also highlights traces of the Romantic concept of music in areas where it has been overlooked so far.
