englischMedical research on food intolerance has been going on for decades. However, much less research has been done on the consequences of such intolerance beyond physical symptoms. Yet the effect of nutrition and illness on the quality of life of those who are ill offers a field of research that is also interesting for sociology.

In this study, Christoph Harke provides an insight into the broad scope of such illnesses and the re-strictions that accompany them. Basing his analysis on the concept of life situation, he examines the biographies of six people affected by food intolerance and its sociologically relevant effects.
