englischIn the Covid 19 pandemic, quick, collectively binding decisions were required despite incomplete knowledge. Old heuristics failed. The system of scientific policy advice had to be reoriented. Hubertus Nietsch describes the conflict of goals between contingent knowledge and political decisiveness in terms of political theory with reference to Max Weber. He derives recommendations for action for future social crises from the extended analysis of the system-theoretical difference in perspective of political decision-makers and scientific advisors (experts) and their interaction. In this context, politics must be more than just the rational implementation of scientific knowledge, and it depends on a coherent risk practice.
